STORM DAMAGE · INSURANCE CLAIMS
Hail last night?
Wind took shingles?
Midwest Roofing & Renovation has worked Chicagoland storm claims since 2004. We come out after the storm, assess the damage, and work the claim with you, so the payout covers what the roof actually needs, not what the first estimate says it does. It does not matter who wrote your policy.
THE FIRST 48 HOURS
What to do before anyone touches the roof.
The order matters. Insurers pay on documentation, and a repair started before the adjuster has seen the damage is a repair you may end up paying for yourself.
01
Stay off the roof.
Look from the ground and from the attic. Note where water is showing up inside. If the ceiling is dripping, catch it in a bucket and move what matters.
02
Photograph everything.
Phone photos of the roof from the ground, the gutters, dented vents and siding, and anything inside, with the date. Insurers pay on documentation.
03
Call us, then your insurer.
We inspect for free, document the damage properly, and walk you through filing. When the adjuster (the insurer’s inspector) comes, we’re on the roof with them.
04
Don’t sign with the first truck on the block.
After a big front, out-of-town crews work the neighborhood door to door. Get a written estimate from a licensed local company you can find next year.
Document first. Fix second. Nothing left off the scope.
The inspection and the claim help cost you nothing. We are your contractor, not your public adjuster, and the written estimate is free either way.
-
We meet the adjuster on your roof.
The adjuster is the insurer’s inspector, with twenty minutes and a lot of houses. We walk the roof with them and point out what gets missed when nobody is up there:
- hail bruises and granule loss
- lifted and creased shingles
- dented vents, gutters and siding
- cracked pipe boots
-
We read the scope line by line.
The scope is the insurer’s line-by-line estimate. When it arrives, we compare it to what the roof actually needs:
- missing line items
- undersized quantities
- a “repair” where the shingles can no longer be matched
If it comes in short, we document the gap and submit a supplement (a request to add what the scope missed), with photos, not arguments.
-
You’re only responsible for your deductible.
The job is scoped to what’s approved, in writing, before a ladder goes up. No surprise bills, no “we found something” halfway through. Our five-year workmanship warranty sits on top of the manufacturers’, in writing.

A licensed public adjuster on our team.
Monika De La Cruz, our project manager, holds an Illinois public adjuster license. She knows a claim from the inside: what the insurer’s adjuster looks for, how a scope is put together and what it tends to leave out. Every photo, report and estimate we hand you is held to that standard.
- damage documented the way an adjuster reads it
- estimates written line by line, ready to send to your insurer
- the insurer’s scope checked against what the roof actually needs
One line we keep clear. On a job we repair, Monika works as our project manager, not as your public adjuster. Illinois law does not let the company fixing your roof represent you on the claim, so the claim stays yours. Want a public adjuster of your own? You can hire one, and we work alongside them.
The damage insurers pay for.
Every policy is different, we’ll read yours with you. But these are the patterns that usually turn into a covered claim.
HAIL
Bruises & granule loss
Soft spots and bare patches where the hail knocked the granules off. Invisible from the ground, obvious on the roof.
WIND
Lifted, creased & missing shingles
Creased shingles have lost their seal even when they look fine. Missing tabs mean the deck is next.
COLLATERAL
Dented vents, gutters, siding
Dents on soft metal prove the storm hit your house, and they’re part of the claim.
INTERIOR
Stains & drips
Water inside that started after the storm ties the damage to the event. Photograph it with the date.
